In a jaw-dropping interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, comedian Russell Brand made shocking admissions about his past sexual conduct while facing serious criminal charges. The 50-year-old, who has reinvented himself as a MAGA darling, confirmed allegations that he slept with a 16-year-old girl when he was 30 years old.

From Left-Wing Comic to MAGA Star

Brand's transformation from anti-establishment left-wing comedian to born-again Christian conservative has been nothing short of remarkable. Once a fixture on British television and in Hollywood films like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," Brand now finds himself embraced by Trump's MAGA movement. He attended the 2024 Republican National Convention, befriended RFK Jr., and even received a "Global Defender of Freedom" award at Mar-a-Lago.

Shocking Admissions on Air

During his Wednesday appearance with Kelly to promote his new book, Brand addressed the elephant in the room with surprising candor. "The plain fact of it is that in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I'm from, the age of consent is 16, and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30," Brand confessed.

He attempted to provide context for his actions, claiming he was "a very different person" and "an immature 30-year-old" at the time. More significantly, Brand acknowledged the inherently problematic nature of such relationships, stating that "consensual sex" with "a strong power differential" when you're a "famous man" is inherently "exploitative."

"I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and I did not apply enough consideration, barely any, I suppose, really, to how that sex was affecting other people," Brand admitted during the interview.

Brand's confessions come as he prepares to stand trial in October on seven serious charges including rape and sexual assault. Initially facing five counts relating to incidents between 1999 and 2005 involving four women, additional charges were added in December for incidents involving two more women in 2009. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The comedian's legal troubles stem from a 2023 joint investigation by several prominent UK media outlets, which published allegations from multiple women accusing him of sexual assaults and emotional abuse. His admission about the 16-year-old relationship prompted calls for reassessing age-of-consent laws in the UK and led the BBC to promise an investigation into whether Brand used company taxis to transport the teenager.

Controversial Comments About Ex-Wife

The interview took another controversial turn when Kelly asked Brand about allegations against his ex-wife, pop star Katy Perry. Australian actor Ruby Rose has accused Perry of sexual assault at a Melbourne nightclub. Perry has categorically denied these allegations through her representatives.

Brand's response was dismissive and troubling. "This is probably the old school man in me," he said, "I don't even hear the crime there." He continued with a bizarre demonstration, pretending to poke Kelly with a stick while minimizing the seriousness of the allegations.

Career Collapse and Reinvention

Brand's career began unraveling in 2008 following a controversial prank call incident with fellow BBC host Jonathan Ross. They made inappropriate comments about Brand having had relations with actor Andrew Sachs' granddaughter, leading to Brand's resignation from the BBC.

As sexual assault allegations mounted in 2023, Brand's touring was suspended and he was dropped by his agent. It was during this period of intense scrutiny that Brand doubled down on his Christian rhetoric and fully embraced the MAGA movement, abandoning his previous anti-establishment positions.

The Bigger Picture

Brand's appearance on Kelly's show represents more than just shocking confessions—it highlights how the MAGA movement has become a refuge for controversial figures seeking redemption or relevance. His transformation from left-wing provocateur to conservative Christian demonstrates the fluid nature of modern political alignment when personal interests align with movement objectives.

With his October trial approaching, Brand's admissions may prove legally significant. His acknowledgment of exploitative behavior, while framed as personal growth, could complicate his defense strategy as he faces serious criminal charges that could result in significant prison time.
